Botanical

Welcome to my botanical collection.  This selection of paintings illustrate my love for all things natural. These were made during seasonal walks through woods and forests near my home in Leeds and my childhood home in Blackburn. The beauty and splendour of the colours and the contrasting strength and fragility of trees and flowers are what inspires me to create my artwork.  Flowers, plants and trees are Nature's children and so are precious and should be treasured. With environment as a major issue, my paintings record them for posterity in their fullest bloom.

The stark white flowers contrast with the deep, brooding dark leaves and stems behind giving it that wild, unkempt look as if growing on a hedgerow by a layby.

Acrylic on canvas 20 x 20 cms When I painted this plant, I was mainly interested in the patterns made by the flowers, the shape made by the foliage around them, and the details in the middle of each flower. I am attracted to these flowers because their smell reminded me of sunny childhood summers, carefree and happy. Also, with its distinctive white flowers and delicate yellow strands starkly contrasted against the vibrant green and black background of the foliage makes for a striking com

Foxgloves

Acrylic on canvas 49 x 45 x 3 cms This is a painting from a photo I took of some foxgloves growing up the side of a wall at a pub in Blackburn. I was attracted by the height of the flower, the purple colour and the mass of foilage at the bottom. The orange background is my own invention.
