This collection of real, imagined and whimsical depictions of animals and birds exists because they hold a symbolic significance representing major human values or traits which are either lacking or in force in society today or that meant something to me at the time I painted them. This collection has particular resonance today because enviromental issues are foremost in the public consciousness.

Wildlife

Welcome to my collection of wildlife paintings. I created these animal portraits because I chanced upon the opportunity to do one as part of a course I was on. The first portrait was the elephant and then came the giraffe. I enjoyed doing them so much that I had a go at others. I then began to research spirit animals and found that interesting too and have added that dimension to my animal portraits. Each animal painting comes with a story attached.

'Swans in Love' Oil on canvas 30 x 25 cms Unframed I painted this because I loved the image of the two swans with their necks entwined. Swans are famous for mating for life and this image symbolises love, fidelity, companionship, all the things I value in a partner. This painting says a lot about love and loyalty and is an image that would be perfect to demonstrate love between two people.	'Joy' - The Giraffe Acrylic, charcoal and pen on collaged background Unframed 56 x 76 x 4 cms This whimsical painting was an experiment using a collaged patchwork background representing the distinctive markings on a giraffe's body. A giraffe signifies things that inspire and raise your spirit. Here, she is smiling and makes me happy which is why I called the work ‘Joy’. Giraffes symbolize grace, peace, individuality, protection, communication, perception, and farsightedness.
